Butter—Creamer- and when law attempts to pro- tect that which is lawless, govern- ment is always impaired. It is also urged that any protection of vice injuries the moral life of a city. The one theory seems tolean to the practical the other to the theoretical view of the matter. THE state of Minnesota owns fifteen hundred thousand acres of swamp lands in northern Min- nesota. When this vast terri- tory is properly drained it will be some of the finest agricultural land in the state. What better reason can the state have for substantial drainage appropria- tions? —— THE success of plans for the establishing of a public library in Bemidjiis very gratifying to the people of this city. The Commercial club a-hatching at Hibbing. Every day has its candidate for mayor at Crookston. Wadena will have a dye works, but the town will only live the more. ; McIntosh has a band concert that beats the band in all its for- mer attempts. Little Falls performs the not- able feat by moving its postoffice without a row. i Municipal ownership of public utilities reduces meter rates at Ada from ten to eight cents. The Rush City Post hears an owl hoot and hails him harbinger of spring, Hoot, mon! We fear you are rushing the season. The Crookston Times installs a double deck linotype, which is one of three of its kind west of Mr. Greeley has a happy facalty of inspiring lasting friend- ships and since going to the Big Fork country he has become very popular. His paper, the Com- pass, is a credit to the town and he versatility and native ability which he brings to his news- paper work is generally appre- ciated. The equipment for the new sawmill is being taken in this weck and will be ready for busi- ness as soon as it can be placed in position. It will be the first mill of consequence in the Big Fork valley and its coming is hailed with delight by the settlers generally. New settlers are coming in very rapidly and there will be great activity in the building line this summer. The people up that way are confident that the M. & I. will be built through some time during the coming year and will be greatly disap- pointed if work is not begun in the next few months. The ex- tension means a very great deal to the ccuntry and believed sinee the recent visit of the officials to be an assured fact. = library is established. It has|Chicago.
