Wide Interest Aroused and Pro- posed Mass Meeting Isan Un- certain Quantity to Many. The local--W. C. U. held a meeting at the Union Mission rooms in the old First National bank building yesterday at which the initial step was taken in a movement looking toward local reforms of a drastic and far reaching 'nature. The attend- ance at the meeting was about twenty-tive and it was decided to call a mass meeting at the city hall for the purpose of deciding on some definite plan through which the proposed reforms can best be brought about. Addresses were delivered by several of those present in which severe arraignments were made of well known conditions in this city and the sentiment was freely expressed that the time was ripe when _the ' better people of the city should interest themselves to secure a change. Gambling and other prevalent social conditions were discussed at some length and it was decided to- rally the citizens at a mass meeting who were in favor of a less liberal municipal policy and decide upon some plan that would be effectivein curbing and stamp- ing out vice and corruption in Bemidji. The meeting and its purpose| > has been much discussed about the city today. The mass meet- ing is an unknown quantity to the gaming fraternity and others interested and developments will be awaited with interest.
